Two armed men rob Wallsend Bakery in early-morning attack
Two masked men with knives stole cash from a Wallsend Bakery before dawn on Saturday, fleeing in a sedan.
Police are investigating an armed robbery at Wallsend Bakery on Nelson Street just after 6am on Saturday. Two men wearing masks and carrying knives entered the shop, threatened staff, and fled with cash in a light-coloured sedan.
No one was physically injured in the attack. CCTV footage shows one offender opening a till while the second stood armed; staff threw bread rolls at the men as they left.
The bakery owner said this marks the second violent incident in weeks and that staff no longer feel safe at work. Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery called it "abhorrent" and urged the community to support the family-run business.
