Wodonga Golf Club faces halving for 133-home housing development
Wodonga Golf Club would shrink from 18 holes to nine. A state-approved rezoning plan would allow building 133 houses.
Zach Murray won the New Zealand Open. Murray started playing golf at Wodonga Golf Club when he was eleven.
Murray says the course shaped his life and career. The club is now in pre-approval for fast-track rezoning.
This would allow a 133-house development. Plans show the course would shrink to nine or eleven holes.
Wodonga Council raised concerns about biodiversity and plan consistency. But it has no formal role in the decision.
The state planning minister decides. Club spokesman Simon Zhong said redevelopment is the only choice.
It would keep the club financially healthy. Murray fears young golfers will lose the chance he had.
