Husband drugged wife, advertised her online; four men charged with assault

Philip Young, a UK councillor, pleaded guilty to 56 offences: drugging, raping and advertising his wife online.

Four men faced court charged with sexual assault. Her former husband, Philip Young, a UK councillor, had drugged and advertised her online.

Young pleaded guilty to 56 offences over 13 years. Philip Young used photos of his wife taken without her permission to advertise her on swinging sites, Grindr and Craigslist.

A prosecutor said he became obsessed with a fantasy she never wanted. His wife Joanne waived her anonymity.

She said their marriage had always been monogamous. In 2023 she woke blindfolded and shackled with a stranger.

Video showed she was visibly drugged and unable to consent, her husband had spiked her drink. The four accused men said they believed she was consenting.

Young admitted 14 counts of voyeurism, 11 counts of rape, 11 counts of giving drugs with intent, seven of assault by penetration and four of sexual assault. Dean Hamilton also pleaded guilty to sexual offences against her.
