Six runners complete 4,000km Perth-to-Sydney relay for domestic violence
Six ultra-endurance runners completed a 4,000-kilometre relay from Perth to Sydney to raise funds for domestic violence support service Beyond DV.
Hayden Sumner ran through the nights across the Nullarbor for two weeks, thinking of his mother and other victims of domestic violence. Sumner's mother died by suicide when he was seven years old, and he later learned her death came from her struggles with domestic violence and abusive partners.
Sumner and five other ultra-endurance athletes completed a 4,000-kilometre relay from Cottesloe Beach in Perth to Bondi Beach in Sydney in 15 days. The runners took shifts around the clock.
One person was running every second of the day and night. Each runner covered about 666 kilometres over two weeks.
Funds raised will go to Beyond DV. This group supports women and children affected by domestic violence.
The runners finished outside Bondi Pavilion on Monday afternoon with tearful hugs.
