McRae's mystery on-field comment was pregnancy congratulations

Craig McRae told Brodie Grundy on the field in May that he was congratulating him on his impending fatherhood, kept private.

Nearly five months after Craig McRae and Brodie Grundy exchanged words on the field in May, the mystery comment has been revealed. McRae congratulated Grundy on the impending birth of his baby.

At the time, Grundy had not announced the pregnancy publicly and was confused why McRae knew. Grundy's wife Rachael was over 20 weeks pregnant but they had not shared the news anywhere.

Neither Grundy nor McRae are particularly close, which puzzled the Sydney Swans. Grundy and his partner have since welcomed a baby boy named Darcy in August.

The reason the comment stayed quiet was respect for Grundy's privacy until he chose to announce it himself on Instagram.
