Twelve missing after avalanche sweeps Mount Himlung base camp
An avalanche on a 7126-metre Nepalese peak swept away twelve people at a climbing base camp during severe weather.
Rescue teams are searching for twelve people swept away by an avalanche on Mount Himlung in north-central Nepal after severe weather on Sunday. At least two people were killed and ten rescued by helicopter.
All those caught were Nepali nationals preparing the base camp for foreign climbers during the autumn season. Flooding and landslides were reported in the Manang district where the mountain is located over the weekend.
Nepal's disaster management agency reported at least 21 dead and five missing across the country between Thursday and Sunday from the broader weather crisis. The nation is still recovering from devastating flooding in August that killed more than 1400 people.
