Tim Winton's Cloudstreet wins ABC poll of Australia's favorite books

Cloudstreet topped a nationwide ABC poll of Australia's 100 favourite books.

ABC Radio National conducted a nationwide poll asking readers to name their top 100 Australian books. Tim Winton's Cloudstreet, first published in 1991, won the vote.

The novel follows two working-class families, the Lambs and Pickles, living together for 20 years in postwar Perth. Markus Zusak's The Book Thief came second and Trent Dalton's Boy Swallows Universe took third.

Cloudstreet has won major awards including the Miles Franklin in 1992 and has been taught in Australian schools for decades. The story remains a cultural touchstone across the country.
