Declan Clausen becomes Newcastle's longest-serving deputy lord mayor
Labor councillor Declan Clausen has taken the deputy lord mayor role for the eighth time. This is the longest in Newcastle's history.
Declan Clausen has returned as Newcastle's deputy lord mayor for a record eighth year in the role. The Labor councillor held the position for seven years in a row from 2017 to 2024.
Clausen has now taken it back from Greens councillor Charlotte McCabe. Clausen has been on Newcastle council for more than 11 years.
He has worked on renewable energy work, affordable housing and local infrastructure. From next year, the second-in-charge role will rotate among four councillors over the four-year council term.
