Chris Clancy spent a week in hospital and is still waiting for surgery
He left John Hunter Hospital on Sunday night still on the bone surgery waiting list.
Chris Clancy, 48, waited a week in John Hunter Hospital for surgery on a broken collarbone. Mr Clancy was allegedly hit by a car that lost control during a Newcastle Knights farewell.
The collarbone still needs surgery, but Mr Clancy said others needed surgery more urgently. Mr Clancy was discharged on Sunday night but is still on the bone surgery waitlist.
The bone surgery waitlist has faced criticism this year for long waits. Mr Clancy said he does not blame the hospital or staff, who have been brilliant.
Mr Clancy also said he thinks the health system is broken and nurses deserve more pay. In April, the NSW Industrial Relations Commission awarded nurses a 16 per cent pay rise over three years.
Nurses said that was not enough to attract and keep the nurses needed to expand John Hunter.

Why it mattersLong waits can hold back surgery for injured people, and the waitlist has faced criticism this year.
AustraliaPatients in NSW waiting for bone surgery may face the same delays, and Mr Clancy says one government blames the other.
