Point Of Law wins Melbourne Cup as trainer makes history
Trainer Ciaron Maher became the first in racing history to sweep the trifecta with his record seven runners in the Melbourne Cup.
Ciaron Maher achieved a racing first at the Melbourne Cup when his horses finished one, two and three from a record-high seven runners. Point Of Law won with jockey Ethan Brown in the saddle.
Legendary commentator Bruce McAvaney was covering the race for Triple M when the result was called, enthusiastically cheering home the winner and celebrating with colleagues. McAvaney had not been to Flemington since 2019.
Maher's two stallions took the top two placings, adding to the remarkable nature of the achievement.
