Point of Law can rule the roost, says legend jockey Jim Cassidy

Legendary jockey Jim Cassidy backs Point of Law, trained by Ciaron Maher, as his top Cup pick.

Jim Cassidy, revered for 103 Group 1 wins including two Melbourne Cups, has given his expert runner-by-runner verdict ahead of this year's race. Point of Law, a four-year-old trained by Ciaron Maher, is Cassidy's top pick.

Cassidy singles out the horse's barrier three draw and 57.5kg handicap as huge advantages. Point of Law won the Curragh Cup over 2816 metres in Ireland in July and brings some strong form from European staying races.

Jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle will take the reins. Cassidy also rates the 2024 Cup winner among the chances, despite recent patchy form, noting that any horse that has won the race deserves respect.
