Lachlan Kennedy delays race return after back scan raises alarm
Lachlan Kennedy will skip racing until late February 2027. An MRI showed warmth around his lower-back stress fracture site from before.
Lachlan Kennedy is Australia's fastest 100 metres sprinter who delayed his season return after a precautionary MRI scan. The scan showed inflammation around a lower-back stress fracture from last year.
Coach Andrew Iselin told media the area was "warm and radiant around the bone." This led to a careful approach to training.
Kennedy will focus on gym work and mobility. Kennedy's season opener is at Melbourne's Maurie Plant Meet on February 26-27.
Kennedy will skip the major summer events. Kennedy clocked 9.85 seconds to win silver in the 100 metres at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games this month.
Kennedy is aiming for a medal at next year's world athletics championships in Beijing. Fellow Olympic sprinter Ella Connolly is recovering from a severe hamstring tear that required surgery.
