Swan Hill train line least reliable in Victoria as funding stalls
Swan Hill train line has Victoria's worst reliability; no party has yet pledged funding for upgrades.
V/Line's Swan Hill line has Victoria's worst punctuality at 74.5 per cent on time in August. The line uses older trains with a single large engine, unlike the newer VLocity trains on other regional lines.
V/Line chief executive Will Tieppo said the line does need further investment to run VLocity trains, such as level crossing upgrades. No major political party has yet pledged specific funding for Swan Hill.
The Coalition plans to deploy extra V/Line trains on other regional lines and keep Swan Hill services running to Melbourne's Southern Cross station. The Greens have promised $245 million for more V/Line services and $270 million for buses across Victoria.
Tieppo said maintenance is improving the older trains' performance, but dedicated funding remains elusive.
