Man convicted of assault after grabbing woman's throat at nightclub
Jackson Ingram, 19, was convicted of common assault after grabbing a woman by the throat at a Wollongong nightclub.
The woman had briefly known Ingram on social media but blocked him in March after he made her uncomfortable. On 27 May at the Heyday nightclub on Crown Street, Ingram approached her and asked to dance or buy a drink.
The woman declined both times. About half an hour later he grabbed her by the neck while she stood against a wall, then moved his hand down her chest.
Bystanders separated them. His lawyer argued it was an error of judgement, but Judge Michael Love rejected this, calling it an absurdity.
The judge said there is too much violence in the community and too much violence against women. Ingram was convicted and given a one-year community correction order.
