Swans' star ruck Morphett out for season with ACL injury
Ally Morphett's season-ending knee injury strips the Swans of their primary ruck and aerial target.
Sydney's 22-year-old ruck Ally Morphett has suffered an ACL tear and will miss the rest of the season. Morphett was injured in Sunday's loss to North Melbourne after landing awkwardly in a ground contest.
Morphett is the Swans' fourth season-ending injury this year, leaving coach Colin O'Riordan to rebuild around Maddie Quinn and Taylor Smith. Without Morphett's consistent taps and aerial presence, Sydney loses stoppage control and predictability in attack.
Quinn, a draftee, wins roughly 30 per cent of contests as primary ruck, forcing the midfield to stay compact and defend instead of attacking. O'Riordan says the team will adapt by playing faster, handball-driven football and reducing risky corridor exits from defence.
