Chery plans eight brands for Australia while rivals consolidate
Chinese automaker Chery announced two new brands in one week, planning eight distinct brands in Australia.
Chery confirmed the arrival of Exlantix and Luxeed within days of each other. These add to existing Australian brands including Omoda Jaecoo, Lepas, and iCaur.
The strategy diverges sharply from competitors. Great Wall Motor consolidated its former separate brands Haval, Tank, and Wey into a single GWM brand.
GAC combined Trumpchi and Aion under one banner. SAIC Motor focuses on MG and LDV.
Geely operates seven brands in Australia including Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus. Chery says brands will target different buyers but some overlap and compete with each other.

Why it mattersMultiple brands competing for the same customers can create confusion and hurt sales unless each brand attracts a distinct group of buyers.
AustraliaAustralian car buyers will encounter a much wider range of Chery-owned options; dealers and inventory strategies will affect where buyers can purchase models.
