Tesla Cybertruck won't reach Australia, deposits refunded
Tesla cancels Cybertruck plans for Australia and New Zealand; deposit holders receive refunds plus a year's free self-driving software.
Tesla told Australian and New Zealand customers this week that the Cybertruck won't be coming to either market. The vehicle is built only in left-hand drive, and Tesla has not adapted it for right-hand-drive countries.
Customers who paid deposits will get their money back. As a thank-you, Tesla is offering a free one-year self-driving subscription worth $1788 toward a new Model 3 or Model Y. The carmaker had collected deposits starting in 2019 but closed the local reservation portal in 2022.
Tesla imported one Cybertruck to Australia in 2024 for promotional tours, suggesting it might still come to market, but those plans have now ended.
