Bendigo gets volunteer help to make train trips easier
Volunteers will offer wheelchair help and luggage support to Bendigo rail passengers.
A new volunteer service called Travellers Aid has started in Bendigo. The service helps people with a disability, seniors and anyone who needs extra help on public transport.
Volunteers provide wheelchair help and assistance with luggage and other kinds of aid. Bendigo is the fourth regional location on the V/Line network to offer Travellers Aid.
Elias Lebbos, Travellers Aid's chief executive, hopes it will get people off the highway and onto trains. V/Line chief executive Will Tieppo welcomed the service, saying it gives more comfort and more safety.
V/Line says passenger numbers are now 10-15 per cent higher than a couple of years ago.
