Tesla Model 3 and Y cheaper and quicker as EV price war heats up
Tesla slashed Australian prices on its Model 3 and Model Y to compete with cheaper Chinese electric cars like BYD and Zeekr.
Tesla has cut Australian prices on two of its most popular cars to fend off growing competition from Chinese electric vehicle makers. The Model 3 dropped from $54,900 to $45,900.
The Model Y Performance top-spec grade fell from $89,400 to $84,900. The Model 3 now has a larger touchscreen and 600km driving range, while the Model Y accelerates faster (0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds instead of 4.8).
Tesla also added a new Power Share feature that lets owners run appliances directly from the car's battery. Chinese rivals like the Zeekr 7X ($57,900) offer lower prices, which prompted Tesla's move to stay competitive.
