Forest Street Primary principal Jill Burt retired on October 30 after 52 years in education, including 22 years in the top job.

Jill Burt, 71, walked out of Forest Street Primary School for the last time on World Teachers' Day, marking the end of more than five decades in classrooms. Jill Burt spent 32 years at Forest Street, the last 22 as principal.

Jill Burt's impact runs deep: at least five or six current teachers at the school are her former students, and countless staff members who came through its doors went on to lead schools across Ballarat and Victoria.

Multiple generations of families have passed through the school during her tenure. Students made her a retirement book with ideas ranging from knitting and sewing to bungy jumping.
