Devonport Days Building returns to market with restoration prospects
Devonport's art deco Days Building, damaged and unused for years, is now under contract for potential sale and restoration.
The Days Building, a Devonport landmark built in 1949, sits on a prime corner on Rooke Street with six ground-floor shops including Jay-Jay's Clothing, Subway and Noodle Box. The upper three floors are mostly empty and deteriorated.
In 2023, a break-in caused $40,000 in flood damage. The building changed hands twice since 2017 without restoration, selling first for under $1.5 million, then for $2.3 million.
It's now listed under contract with Halliwell Property Agents. The refurbishment possibilities include apartments for inner-city living.
Why it mattersA prominent decaying building either becomes a neighbourhood reviver or stays a blight, depending on who buys it.
AustraliaDevonport's CBD has recently revamped with the Novotel Hotel and waterfront upgrades; a restored Days Building would be the missing piece.
