Volunteers search bushland for Nannup Four, missing almost 20 years
Volunteers and family members are searching bushland near Northcliffe for four people who vanished from WA in 2007.
Chantelle McDougall, her daughter Leela, Simon Kadwill and Tony Popic disappeared from the outskirts of Nannup almost two decades ago. Before vanishing, the group left a letter saying they'd moved to Brazil, sold their cars and gave away possessions.
The group never used their passports. A 2017 inquest couldn't determine if they were alive or dead.
Now volunteers including geologists, former detectives and prospectors have descended on bushland near Northcliffe, 100 kilometres south of Nannup, to search. Bus tickets purchased before the disappearance point to this area.
Police searched here once but admitted they were in the wrong location. The volunteers, some travelling hundreds of kilometres, are clearing overgrown tracks and preparing for cadaver dogs.
So far only two scraps of fabric have been found. Jim and Cath McDougall, the parents and grandparents, are searching alongside the volunteers each day.
