Teen sailor Mia Greatbatch races nationally for Tasmania
Mia Greatbatch is 15. She has sailed for Tasmania three times at national youth sailing competitions. She also helps teach younger sailors.
Mia started sailing at eight, taught by her father. Recently she moved up to steering a larger yacht in northern Tasmania.
Mia loves the community and the friendships, but she noticed few girls compete at national level. At competitions, she has sometimes been one of very few female sailors.
Competing can feel scary when you stand out. But Mia goes for it anyway.
Alongside school and other hobbies, Mia is planning to qualify for state championships in her new boat. She has no plans to stop sailing anytime soon.
