Child psychiatrist Benjamin Wen warned of prison for patient abuse

Child psychiatrist Benjamin Wen has been found guilty of sexually abusing young patients and warned he will face prison.

A WA District Court judge warned Benjamin Wen, 52, that he will face prison. Wen sexually abused child patients.

Wen was convicted in April of multiple charges. The charges included indecent dealing with children under 13 and persistent sexual conduct with children under 16.

Wen touched boys' genitals under the pretext of doing medical checks for puberty. The court heard these checks were not needed for a psychiatrist to perform.

The crimes happened more than 10 years ago. Wen previously went by the name Aaron Voon.

He also made videos of boys in public toilets in 2017. This occurred in Canada, the United States, New Zealand and Perth.

He received a suspended sentence for this. A judge will sentence him on Wednesday.

The prosecutor told the court that Wen abused the trust placed in him. He showed no remorse.
