Alleged gang leader charged after phone found at Norwest shooting

Reece Fakhr, 18, was charged with gang-related offences after his phone was found at a shooting scene.

An 18-year-old alleged senior member of the self-proclaimed Coconut Cartel has been arrested and charged following an investigation into gang violence in Sydney. Reece Fakhr's phone was found at the scene of an 11-year-old boy's shooting in Norwest last month.

Fakhr is not accused of any involvement in the boy's death. NSW Police allege Fakhr is a key player in the gang, accused of setting up murders, kidnappings and arsons.

He has been charged with conspiracy to murder, soliciting murder, kidnapping and firearm offences. The charges stem from gang conflict between the self-proclaimed Coconut Cartel and Sydney's Alameddine crime family.

Police have attributed at least four deaths to the gangland hostilities, including two believed to be cases of mistaken identity. Fakhr was arrested at Sydney International Airport on Tuesday and refused bail.

His case was adjourned in bail court.
