Sam Wood denied bail over assault risk
A Queensland judge refused Wood's second bail application, saying he posed an unacceptable risk to his wife and community.
Sam Wood, a 46-year-old former Bachelor star and fitness influencer, will stay in custody. A Queensland Supreme Court judge rejected his second bail request.
Justice Patrick McCafferty found Wood posed an unacceptable risk to his wife Snezana and the community. Wood is accused of throwing his wife into a wall, choking her and hitting her head on the floor.
This happened at a Noosa holiday unit on October 3. Sam Wood has been on remand facing domestic violence charges that carry a maximum seven-year prison term.
Wood's barrister argued he should be released to his father's home in Tasmania. This would reduce risk to his wife and the public.
But Justice McCafferty said the proposed conditions were not strong enough to lower the danger to an acceptable level. Wood's original bail request was refused on October 8 at Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
Why it mattersCourts refuse bail when they believe a person poses a real danger to victims or witnesses; this decision signals serious safety concerns in this case.
AustraliaThe case proceeds through Queensland's justice system; Wood's detention means the criminal trial will continue while he remains in prison.
