Death penalty sought in Idaho twins case
An Idaho prosecutor is seeking the death penalty for Andrea Shaw in connection with her twins' 2025 deaths, citing autopsy evidence.
Andrea Shaw, 23, has been charged with murder in the May 2025 deaths of her twin 18-month-old toddlers and has pleaded not guilty. She claims the children became sick and died after receiving childhood vaccinations including the flu shot.
A Payette County autopsy found symptoms consistent with smothering. The prosecutor argues suffocation is the only explanation for their deaths.
The state has cited four aggravating factors to justify seeking the death penalty: multiple murders, especially cruel killings, disregard for human life, and likelihood of continuing threat to society.
Shaw's defence argues the coroner found cause of death undetermined, consistent with hyperthermia or overheating, and questions whether this finding was presented to the grand jury. Medical pathologists who examined the twins also reported their causes of death were undetermined.
A trial has been set for January.
