Tesla scraps Cybertruck as sales collapse far below target
Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production by mid-2027. The company sold just 20,237 units last year, far below Elon Musk's 250,000-unit target.
Elon Musk has announced Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production by mid-2027. This abandons one of his flagship projects.
The automaker sold just 20,237 Cybertrucks in the US last year. Sales dropped 48 per cent from 38,965 in 2024.
That falls far short of Musk's original target of 250,000 annual units. The wind-down will free manufacturing capacity for the Cybercab.
This is a two-seater robotic taxi Musk has made central to Tesla's autonomous-vehicle strategy. The Cybercab has yet to prove itself commercially.
It is still ramping up production. The decision comes after a difficult week for Musk.
His companies shed more than $180 billion in market value.
