Point Of Law leads Maher's record eight-runner Melbourne Cup bid
Trainer Ciaron Maher has eight horses in the top 25 for the November 3 Melbourne Cup, a record for his stable.
Maher has positioned eight runners in the top 25 for the $10.2 million Cup, breaking his own record. Point Of Law, the $6 favourite, was bought from King Charles III's royal stable after winning the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket in July, then won the Geelong Cup last Wednesday.
The well-bred import is only six starts into his career but impressed on his Australian debut. Maher also entered Shockletz, Mr Monaco, Middle Earth, Royal Supremacy, Saint George and Zahrann.
The previous record was six runners entered by Robert Hickmott in 2013. Maher won the Cup in 2022 with Gold Trip and said this is his strongest hand yet.
