Port Fairy couple converts horse float into wood-fired sauna
Claire Graham and Jack Waterson run a wood-fired sauna in a horse float on Port Fairy beaches.
After visiting Ireland and discovering sauna culture was a regular ritual there, Port Fairy's Claire Graham wanted to bring it home. Claire Graham and partner Jack Waterson bought an old horse float on Facebook Marketplace and spent a year turning it into a wood-fired sauna called Pony Sauna.
The sauna runs at three Port Fairy spots on different weekend days. The sauna takes about two hours to heat up before they drive it to a spot and leave it for the day.
Customers now return from Hamilton, Portland, Warrnambool and even Melbourne. Graham says the best part has been watching strangers become friends through the experience, opening up and connecting in the steam.
