Two ACT public service leaders quit amid job cut plan

Two senior ACT public service chiefs resigned. Several departments plan voluntary job cuts.

Gillian Geraghty is director-general of Infrastructure Canberra. Geraghty told staff Friday she is leaving in early December.

Geraghty has been there just over three years. The same week, Kathy Leigh stepped down.

Leigh was head of the entire ACT Public Service. Several departments are seeking voluntary job cuts.

The Health and Community Services Directorate wants to cut at least 65 positions. The Community and Public Sector Union is getting legal advice.

It may challenge the job cut program. It could do this in the Fair Work Commission.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr said agencies are adjusting staff numbers. They must match budget amounts approved by parliament.
