Rays force World Series Game 5 with stunning 12th-inning rally
Tampa Bay beat Milwaukee 4-3 in 12 innings to stay alive, down three games to one.
The Tampa Bay Rays rescued themselves from elimination with a dramatic bottom-of-the-12th rally against the Milwaukee Brewers. A throwing error by third baseman Joey Ortiz opened the door, and Liam Hicks singled before Jonny DeLuca's single to centre drove in pinch-runner Cedric Mullins to tie the score.
Chandler Simpson's single loaded the bases and Ben Williamson, who had struggled at 1-for-15 in the post-season, hit a chopper over first base to seal the 4-3 win. The Brewers had taken the lead when rookie Cooper Pratt launched a home run in the 12th.
Game 5 goes ahead Wednesday night (Thursday AEDT) at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay becomes just the fifth team in 26 to rally from 3-0 down and force a Game 5; the previous four all lost.
