Aaron Ashby sets MLB postseason record with scoreless streak
Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby has pitched 15⅔ postseason innings without allowing a run, tied to possible MLB history.
Aaron Ashby threw a five-out save in Game 2 of the World Series. The Brewers won 5-4 and took a 2-0 series lead.
Across the playoffs, Ashby has posted 15⅔ innings, 5 hits, zero runs, 3 walks and 17 strikeouts. The streak appears to be the most consecutive scoreless innings to start a postseason in MLB history.
During the regular season, Ashby recorded 13 wins as a reliever and four saves. In the playoffs he has added one win and three saves.
He often pitches multiple innings. Manager Pat Murphy said Ashby's work in relief is unconventional and effective.
He compared the style to Goose Gossage and said the Brewers once had a reliever like that too in Rollie Fingers, both pitching multiple innings in relief.
