Ben Simmons signals plan to play for Boomers at 2027 World Cup
Ben Simmons told journalist Marc J. Spears he wants to represent Australia, with the 2027 World Cup emerging as a possibility.
Ben Simmons is preparing to return to the NBA with the Sacramento Kings after nearly 18 months away. According to NBA journalist Marc J. Spears, Simmons has expressed genuine desire to play for the Boomers at the 2027 World Cup.
Simmons travelled to Melbourne at his own expense to train with the national team under coach Adam Caporn. Spears believes this minicamp proved crucial to reviving Simmons' NBA prospects, after multiple teams refused even to watch him work out earlier in the year.
Spears believes the Melbourne training footage may have been the turning point that ultimately brought Simmons back to the NBA. An upcoming documentary titled Being Ben will reveal new details about Simmons' departure from Philadelphia.
