Daniel Billings plans to appeal Molly Ticehurst murder sentence
Billings filed the notice on Friday 9 October, against the 28-year sentence handed down on 11 September.
Billings pleaded guilty to murdering his ex-partner, Molly Ticehurst, who was killed at her Forbes home in April 2024. The Orange Supreme Court gave him 28 years in prison on 11 September.
Billings cannot be considered for parole until 20 years have passed. On Friday, 9 October, Billings filed a formal notice that he plans to appeal.
The NSW Supreme Court confirmed the notice on Monday evening. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions decided not to appeal the sentence.
Orange MP Phil Donato said the appeal would just add more stress and trauma for Molly's family. Just two weeks before the killing, a court registrar, not a judge, granted Billings bail on other violent charges involving her.
The Minns government then strengthened bail laws, including electronic monitoring.
