Old Gingerbread House in Launceston listed, offers over $735,000 expected
Offers of more than $735,000 are expected for the three-bedroom sandstone home at 2 Cimitiere Street.
Many know the three-bedroom sandstone house at 2 Cimitiere Street as the Gingerbread House. The house gets the name from its ornate fretwork and its period windows and doorways.
Some records date the property back to 1840. The current house was built about 45 years later for John Hudson, of the Hobart Gazette.
The house later passed to Frank Simpson jnr, the town clock's timekeeper from about 1909 until the 1940s. There has been speculation it was once the Cataract Gorge watchhouse, but no evidence shows it was moved.
The home hit the market on October 6, and offers of more than $735,000 are expected. George Bushby, of Bushby Creese, says it has drawn quite a bit of enquiry from interstate buyers.
The home sold for $405,000 in 2018 and has since been updated.
