Jon Ossoff, who held Australian citizenship, leads 2028 Democratic race

Ossoff's mother was born in Sydney. He is now the $4 favourite to become the Democratic nominee for 2028.

Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff is the top contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. Ossoff defeated US Representative Mike Collins in a race once thought to be competitive.

Ossoff's path to fame has an Australian link. Ossoff's mother, Heather Fenton, was born and raised in Sydney before moving to Atlanta at 23.

Ossoff held Australian citizenship before letting it lapse. At 39, if elected in 2028, he would become the youngest US president on record.

He would surpass John F. Kennedy. Donald Trump has already criticized him, calling him a terrible senator.

Ossoff has fought back with attacks on Trump's lifestyle and money dealings.
