ACT Scouts to rebuild training shelter more than two decades after bushfires
Lions Club raised $35,700 for a permanent building at Camp Cottermouth, destroyed in the 2003 bushfires.
Camp Cottermouth has been the spiritual home of Scouts ACT since the early 1950s. The deadly 2003 bushfires left the training hall in ash and the site without permanent shelter ever since.
Young people lost access to the outdoor activities and experiences the camp once offered. Now, more than two decades later, that will change.
The Lions Club partnership has raised enough funds to build a new permanent shelter. Scouts ACT Honorary Commissioner Neville Tomkins said the facility was vital for youth safety and outdoor learning.
Construction is expected to begin in 2027.
