Michael and Susan Dell pledge $6.25b to stock accounts for 25 million US
Dell couple pledges $6.25 billion to fund Trump Accounts for 25 million American children with company stock donations.
The couple has pledged $6.25 billion to invest $250 in Trump Accounts, new tax-advantaged savings vehicles for children in the US. More than 10 million children have already received the contribution, representing $2.6 billion invested.
SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell pledged more than 2 million shares to benefit lower-income children ages 11 to 17. A rule change that took effect last week now allows charities to put individual company stocks into kids' accounts instead of requiring index-fund investment only.
Nearly 70 million US children under 18 now have accounts auto-enrolled. Trump Accounts can be used for education, starting a business, or retirement.
Parents can contribute up to $5,000 annually.
