Former jockey Allan Robinson fined again over waste stored near Woodberry

NSW's environment regulator says the land was an illegal waste site holding asbestos fragments.

Former jockey and Newcastle councillor Allan 'Robbo' Robinson has been fined again. The fine comes from the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).

The fine is over scrap metal and building waste piled up on his land near Woodberry. The regulator says the land was used as an illegal waste site.

It took in mixed waste without approval. The mixed waste included demolition timber, scrap metal and scraps of asbestos.

The regulator also found piles of dangerous materials. These included asbestos fragments and old electronics at the end of their life.

The EPA says Robinson was convicted of the same offence before. It calls this clear disregard for environmental law.

Robinson said he was disappointed. He would rather donate $30,000 to the children's hospital.

Follow-up checks found the waste work had stopped. The waste was cleaned up.

Why it mattersWaste like asbestos can pose serious risks to people and the environment if it is not handled properly.
