Israel displaces about 2,000 Palestinians after deadly West Bank attack

About 2,000 Palestinians were evacuated from Hebron on Saturday. This came after gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers.

Israeli forces evacuated about 2,000 Palestinians from Hebron on Saturday. The evacuation came just days after Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded three others.

Homes and businesses were demolished in the neighbourhood. Military troops sealed off the city.

Defence Minister Katz said residents could not return until Hamas issues in Hebron were resolved. The operation happened just days before Israel's general election on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Netanyahu and other officials visited the attack site. They promised a tough response and showed strength on security to voters.

This year, six Israelis have been killed in the West Bank against 112 Palestinians.
