The Los Angeles Rams lost 27-7 to the San Francisco 49ers in front of more than 100,000 people at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday morning in the NFL's first regular-season game in Australia. The Rams arrived in Melbourne on Thursday morning.
The 49ers, by contrast, spent a week acclimatizing to the local time. Coach Sean McVay rejected claims that the late arrival caused the defeat.
He said he was "more than comfortable" with the decision and pointed instead to his own team's poor execution. McVay acknowledged the 49ers dominated every phase of play and said he needed to perform at a higher standard.
