Iran says shipping lane can reopen in 6 days if US accepts conditions
Iran says it can reopen the Strait of Hormuz in six days if the US lifts sanctions and blockades.
Iran presented its proposal in mid-September after a ceasefire fell apart. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told state media on Sunday the proposal is still live.
If the US accepts all seven conditions, the waterway could reopen within six days. Iran's demands include lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports and ending sanctions on its oil exports.
The US must also stop hostilities across the region. The US has not agreed to these terms.
A major sticking point is Washington's insistence that Iran reduce its uranium enrichment. Disruptions to shipping through the 35-to-40-kilometre-wide strait have boosted global energy prices and inflation.
