Woman receives suspended sentence after helping terminally ill husband die
Kylie Truswell-Mobbs served 14 months in custody; her two-year sentence was suspended immediately upon release.
Kylie Ellina Truswell-Mobbs, 52, pleaded guilty to assisting the suicide of her husband, David Ronald Mobbs, 56, a former firefighter. Mobbs had motor neurone disease and by December 2023 was entirely bedridden, unable to speak or move without help.
Kylie Ellina Truswell-Mobbs gave him a lethal cocktail of drugs after he begged to die; his sons and carers knew what happened. Justice Tom Sullivan sentenced her to two years in prison but immediately suspended it after she served 14 months in custody.
Sullivan accepted she had acted out of compassion. The murder charge was dismissed.
As she left Brisbane Supreme Court, supporters cheered and embraced her.
