Wollongong cricket club breaks record with eight players in rep team

Eight Wollongong players have been selected for Greater Illawarra in a historic first for any club.

Wollongong District Cricket Club will send eight players to represent Greater Illawarra at the Country Championships next week, believed to be the first time any club has achieved such a selection at the open men's level.

Wollongong captain Lachlan Maddinson leads the group, joined by teammates Jack McDonald, Nic Nicastri, Toby Dodds, David Wood, Cian Egerton, Harry Egerton and Callum Barton. Maddinson said the selection shows a strong squad built on shared values and teamwork.

Recently, McDonald and Dodds both hit centuries in Wollongong's win over Balgownie. Maddinson praised his older brother Nic, an Australian Test player, for his comeback after testicular cancer in 2025.
