Dapto bonsai society shows trees crafted over 50 years
A bonsai society displayed 150 miniature trees, some over 50 years old.
The Urimbarra Bonsai Society held its annual exhibition at Dapto Ribbonwood Centre, attracting enthusiasts keen to learn about the demanding hobby. About 150 trees were on display, several representing more than 50 years of careful training.
Society president Sam Heagney exhibited a 15-year-old bonsai. He said the weekend focused on sharing knowledge.
The society set up a repotting table where visitors could bring their own trees for styling advice and health checks. Tony Pezzutto entered the hobby after attending a similar show in 1986.
He helped repot a dozen trees over the two days. Pezzutto sees the work as straightforward.
Nursery trees arrive, the society transforms them into young bonsai, then owners care for them until the next year's show.
