Footballer Ryan Hawkshaw denies forcing woman into threesome at trial
Ryan Matthew Hawkshaw testified he and the woman agreed to a threesome, contradicting her account that he forced her into it.
Footballer Ryan Matthew Hawkshaw gave evidence in Newcastle District Court denying he forced an 18-year-old woman into a threesome at a Hunter home in April 2023. Hawkshaw and Hayden Charles Topliss are jointly charged with sexual intercourse without consent.
Hawkshaw told the court the woman agreed when he suggested his friend join them in the spare bedroom. The Crown prosecutor put to him that the woman had said no multiple times and that it became clear she did not want to participate.
Hawkshaw disagreed. He said he had no memory of the night due to drinking and described an earlier message to Topliss about remembering nothing as "an exaggeration".
The trial continues in Newcastle District Court. Both men have pleaded not guilty.
