Ash crashes but fights back to podium finish at nationals
Ash McPherson won his first final then recovered from a crash that dropped him to 29th to finish second overall.
The Hadspen schoolboy raced in the 65cc two-stroke category for seven to 10-year-olds. Ash won the opening final, but in the second race he crashed while leading and dropped to 29th place.
Ash then fought back to finish eighth in that race and claim second overall. Kara said Ash trains two or three times a week plus gym and bike riding.
He's raced since age six and has competed in Victorian titles and the Hattah Desert Race. His family travels hours in their moto van each weekend to get him to competitions.
Kara said the sport teaches Ash respect, resilience and how to handle setbacks. The St Thomas More's Catholic School student said he loves motocross because he gets to meet new people and experience the speed.
