Man gets community order for breaking stranger's nose during daylight assault
A 42-year-old pleaded guilty to breaking a stranger's nose; he was sentenced to community work.
Clintan Walker, 42, attacked an unknown man on Leichardt Street in broad daylight and broke his nose with a closed fist. Walker first yelled at the man and grabbed his shirt, then punched him.
The victim sustained a displaced nose fracture and a deviated septum. Walker's defence lawyer said he was having a terrible day, stressed about bills and unable to work due to a back injury.
Magistrate Mike Wardell sentenced Walker to a one-year community corrections order and 50 hours of unpaid work. Wardell said Walker had done well turning his life around, but rejected his excuse: "The community is fed up with people who are having a bad day but seem to take it out on others."
