Wagga's $15b data centre plan faces community noise and fire safety concerns
A $15 billion data centre for Wagga has drawn two petitions over noise and fire concerns.
Canberra Data Centre wants to build a 63-hectare campus at Gregadoo with four buildings needing 1.4 gigawatts of power. Greg Boorer calls it a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Wagga and the Riverina.
Two petitions appeared within 24 hours, with residents worried about noise, fire risk, water use, and grid strain. Some fear jobs will fade once construction ends.
Boorer says the facilities operate quietly, like a library. The buildings will only cover about half the site.
The project would bring 200 permanent jobs and about 1500 construction positions. It has not yet been approved by NSW Government.
The company plans to open a drop-in centre in Wagga within weeks.
